Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Robert Vance
Software maven Robert Vance was a genius programmer who created the hugely successful and cutting edge technology firm Vance Industries. In his later years, Vance was diagnosed with an incurable neurological disease. This prompted him to digitize his cerebral infrastructure to create an artificial intelligence based on his knowledge, attitudes and business acumen. This A.I. program was meant to serve as a guiding force in the continued running of Vance Industries. Following Vance’s death, however, his son and the board of directors chose to disable the program and run the company on their own.
Many years later, Vance’s son passed away and controlling shares of the company were inherited by his Vance’s grandson, Bobby Vance. Bobby ended up turning the A.I. program back own seeking advice on how to run the company.
Although the program initially seemed benevolent, it was soon revealed to possess nefarious intentions. Based entirely on the engrams of Robert Vance, the program could not endure being an incorporeal entity and it put in motion a plan to have its consciousness implanted into Bobby (a process that would overwrite ad effectively murder Bobby).
The programs exploration of how it could control computer based devices and mechanisms through Neo Gotham ultimately prompted an investigation by Batman that led the Tomorrow Knight to Vance Industries. The program found that it could infiltrate and fully control Batman’s bionic suit and Terry would have been killed had Bruce not activated an emergency shut-down procedure.
Ultimately Batman discovered the program was vulnerable to high burst electromagnetism and he was able to save Bobby’s life by administering an electromagnetic pulse that had the effect of completely deleting the artificial intelligence.
Actor Stacy Keach provided the voice for Robert Vance as well as the Vance artificial intelligence program. The villainous A.I. featured in the fourth episode of the second season of Batman Beyond, ‘Lost Soul.’

Karasu as a dad!!
a/n: omg that sounds so cute??? he'd be such a good dad.
➤ dad!karasu | headcanons
0.4k words | gn!reader | mostly sfw
As soon as you decide you want to raise a family with him, he's already planning what upgrades or renovations are needed to make his nest home safe and comfortable for you and a little one. (If you want more than one child, it'll be easier just to build or buy a bigger home later on.)
If you haven't discussed finances in great detail yet, his accumulation of wealth might surprise you. He's not cheap or thrifty, but he leads a simple life and his job pays extremely well.
Do you want to be a stay at home parent? Do you want to keep working or enhance your education? He's ready to support all your dreams because he can provide for your family so money isn't an issue for you.
He renovates his home office so it has space for a secondary nursery/playroom. He can work from home easily enough so you get plenty of time for your own self-care and daily routine/hobbies.
If his child is related to him biologically, they'll inherit his eyes and wings.
He likes to nap on the couch with your kid when they're young. Karasu wraps his wings around both of them—it's the cutest thing.
The child's D.D.D. (of course they'll have their own) will have a modified version of the AI software. "Hey KARASU" will trigger the bot as usual, but "Hey Dad" will open a direct link to his personal device.
He's a hands-on parent. He goes to all the school events, he volunteers to help with their extra-curriculars, and he becomes more active in the community. He's still a bit awkward and shy.
He thrives when his family grows. It gives him purpose and motivates him.
You think being a parent would interfere with your romantic relationship? Not nearly as much as you'd expect. Karasu discovers that being a parent is a very attractive look for you and it doesn't take him much to get riled up. He likes to shower you with love and affection throughout the day with little gifts and gestures. He likes to show you his appreciation intimately too, on his knees or his back—it's a good thing he opted to soundproof the master bedroom, he's still a little loud.

The last thing my mom bought me was a fancy A/V receiver. She got some inheritance after her mom passed and wanted to do something nice for me since I took care of her and dad pretty much all by myself.
She died shortly after it arrived and I didn't even take it out of the box for over a year. I didn't hook it up until after my dad died. I don't know why I took so long. I guess for a long time it just didn't feel all that important anymore.
It has a lot of features and a lot of power and it seems really good... on paper.
The plan was to install 4 ceiling speakers and add two more floor speakers to get a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos experience in my basement bedroom. I would be able to have sound come from literally every direction. (Well, not from below.)
That is still a plan, but I have had to postpone all of that due to budget cuts. The fancy receiver has been relegated to a measly 3.1 experience since I moved upstairs. I'm considering converting the upstairs living room into my home theater instead of my bedroom. I'd have a little more space and higher ceilings for the Atmos speakers, but I'd lose the concrete floor of the basement. So I'd have to figure out how to temper the vibrations of the subwoofer into our creaky floor.
ANYWAY.
The problem is... the actual day-to-day operation of this fancy receiver has been super quirky and frustrating.
The thing people may not realize about high end electronics is that they always have their issues. You'd think they'd be bug-free for that price, but it is usually quite the opposite. You have to figure out what all the bugs are and then research all of the workarounds in forums and eventually you'll learn a workflow to make the device function for your needs.
Part of the reason is that the higher the price, the more features they cram in, the more that can go wrong. But a lot of it is just poor software development. They focus almost all of their attention on getting the hardware right.
It's a maddening troubleshooting process and sometimes makes you want to buy that Sonos crap or maybe even... Bose. *shiver*
But this receiver has been *extra* buggy. I was a little disappointed by this. And I felt guilty for hating this wonderful gift my mom gave me. I have this Yamaha receiver that was a third of the price and it functions wonderfully.
Or maybe I just think that because I've already figured out all the quirks and workarounds.
No, I'm pretty sure the Yamaha has been a fairly smooth experience.
I kinda love my old Yamaha.
And I also love that they make pianos and motorcycles and drums and marching band equipment and sporting goods and boats.
Yamaha was all...
It's just that Yamaha doesn't have the Dirac calibration system included like the Onkyo and everyone on the forums said that was a big deal. So I abandoned the trusty Yamaha brand for Onkyo and it's 130 watts and 11 channels of processing and HDMI 2.1 future proofing.
The other day I noticed something extra weird with the Onkyo. My Nvidia Shield (another amazing yet frustrating device) was outputting a 5.1 signal. But my receiver thought it was stereo.
Another bug.
So I headed to the forums and found the solution. I had to turn off "Dolby processing" in a deep submenu of a submenu in my Shield settings. My receiver already does Dolby processing so I guess I was doing double Dolby processing and that is like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters.
Weirdly, this fixed like half of my issues. I don't know how in the world I was supposed to know this one setting buried deep in the menus was causing all this havoc. But it has made me go from wanting to yeet this thing out the window and get a Bose clock radio... to mostly enjoying the experience of having a fancy receiver.
It still handles HDMI switching as if it is having a stroke, but I have found if you turn everything off and power on the Shield FIRST and then all the other components, I can prevent most of the stroke symptoms.
Though sometimes it takes 3 tries.
Onkyo: SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT??? WHAT'S THAT??
In any case, THANKS MOM!
I'm sure I will love your gift when I have 12 speakers blaring at me from every direction.

*a Securitron approaches the think tank carrying a pamphlet*
"Robert Edwin House, 261, President, CEO, and sole proprietor of the New Vegas Strip, industrialist and technologist, founder, President, and CEO of the multi-billion-dollar pre-war robotics and software corporation, RobCo Industries, has died.
Generally recognized by Mr. House to be mankind's only hope of long-term survival, Mr. House's passing may well sound a death knell for the entire human race.
Lost forever is his bounty of knowledge concerning human longevity, the depth and breadth of which could, as he was apt to say, "fill several text books." He was not exaggerating. Though he did not achieve his goal of functional immortality, let us not forget that he died at the age of 261. How many people do that? I mean, come on.
Also lost forever are House's singular personality, force of will, vision, and leadership ability. The probability of an equally capable figure emerging from the current human population to lead mankind to a future of equivalent quality is less than 0.000112% by objective measures too complex to detail in this obituary.
Personality and force of will: Born June 25th, 2020, House was orphaned at an early age when his parents died in a freak accident (auto gyro, lightning). Though cheated of his inheritance, House attended the prestigious Institute in Massachusetts and founded RobCo Industries on his 22nd birthday. Within five years, it was one of the most profitable corporations on Earth.
Vision: By 2065, House was certain that an atomic war would soon devastate the planet. At great personal expense, he developed technologies to ensure the structural integrity of the city of Las Vegas (as it was known at the time). On the day of the great war, 77 atomic warheads targeted the city. Mr. House defeated them all. Talk about vision!
Leadership: Mr. House survived the war, of course, and would later recruit the Three Families, negotiate the Treaty of New Vegas, and rebuild the Vegas Strip. While these achievements yielded many immediate benefits, they were all part of House's master plan to re-ignite mankind's quest for technological advancement, a plan without which the human race has nowhere to go, and nowhere to turn."

Setting Blurb: Present Day CorpEmp
It's 3616 A.D.. The Corporate Empire (or CorpEmp for short, but you should know that by now) has seen a lot, done a lot. Fifteen hundred years since Ignacio I Rotthey united Earth's warlords, eight hundred since Osei Tutu Huangdi III had the displeasure of ordering Earth's nuclear bombardment, and four hundred since the Transhuman Wars almost tore the human species apart. CorpEmp under the Dix-Nipponese dynasty feels more united than ever post-Transhuman Wars, and talks within the Imperial Concert are underway in regards to recolonizing Earth.
Life is decent for the contented citizen. With few exceptions, Imperial workers do their jobs at home, be it the family farm, print-smithy, or workshop. Children of a certain age work alongside their parents, learn the family trade for when it's their turn to inherit it. If that's the line of work they want to test into, of course. Testing into Classes upon coming of age has remained unchanged since the Class System's implementation in the 2100s. Children are tested to determine their role in Imperial society, and are subject to a crash course apprenticeship if they don't test into their parents' class.
Automation has phased out many lines of work deemed "undesirable" (primarily white collar office work). Really, really undesirable jobs are relegated to the penal laborers of the Servile class. With the rise of devices like the print-smithy, industry in CorpEmp has become heavily decentralized. The Great Syndicates, CorpEmp's industrial juggernauts, have managed to survive and adapt. While their own production has diminished, they made up for it by selling proprietary software.
CorpEmp's Solar territory is staring to feel crowded. If there isn't a habitat, there's probably one being planned or under constructed. More and more, families across CorpEmp are signing up for expeditions to further develop the Extrasolar Territories. Bolder ones want to strike out on their own, as CorpEmp expands the list of potential colonization sites.
The Fifth Dynasty, the Imperial House of Dix-Nippon, have been responsible for a relative golden age. But there's an electricity in the air. The current monarch, Lee Himiko, isn't having a good time after her latest chemo session. The other factions are slowly reaching parity in terms of territory and population. The Faytouched have got everyone worried as well, increasing the number of colonial expeditions might increase the number of encounters with the Fay, or worse. Something's gonna happen sooner or later, but this won't be the first something humanity's hyperpower has encountered, and endured.
A(n) (in)complete list of Corporate Empire territories within, and outside the light of Sol:
Sol and Mercury: The Sun is home to a few cults that worship the star, having been renamed Sol Invictus to commemorate humanity's victory over the alien invader. A growing number of extraction/power generation industries have been in development near the star's polar regions.
Mercury is slowly, but surely, being mined for its resources to support the many construction projects across the Solar System. CorpEmp plans to hollow out the entire planet, converting into a massive habitat. Debate rages on if it should be tiered or not. It may take a while, but a thousand year empire is anything but impatient.
Sphere Sovereignty Venus: Terraforming Venus was a long effort involving blood, sweat, tears, dead aliens, and even more blood. The majority CO2 on the planet had frozen prior to the Human-Crystalline War, but weaponizing the terraforming equipment during the war resulted in returning it into the atmosphere. Terraforming wouldn't restart until at the end of the War. Originally a joint project by the Big Three, CorpEmp was the only faction that still had the resources to make the planet a second Earth. For recognition of the many lives lost on the planet, Venus herself was awarded the Anderson Blood Diamond. The scars left on the Ishtar and Aphrodite Terrae are sites of pilgrimage for many Venusians. The dominant Venusian cultures in the 3600s are the Kechua-go of Ishtar Terra, Silavfirika of Aphrodite Terra, and Lada Terra's Eureakan Ulus. For every colony on Venus' surface, there are twice as many habitats orbiting the amber planet. Some are older than the terraforming project.
The Terran Viceroyalties: Don't snicker under your breath that they're not technically "Terran" anymore, they orbit the Earth and that makes them Terran. No, Lunars aren't Terran, shut up. The eight Viceroyalties (Eurmerica, Eurasia, La Hispanidad, the Ummah, Sub-Sahara, Jambudvīpa, Pan-Pacifica, and East Asia, respectively) saw some shuffling of populations during the colonization of the rest of the system, and the Crystalline War. The original right of tribes to secede and confederate (referred to as "Border Fluidity") had to be done away with once CorpEmp's Terran population evacuated to orbital habitats. Eight hundred years later and the tribes and cultures within each Viceroyalty have changed quite a bit quite a bit.
The Blue planet still has some patches that glow in the dark, hordes of volunteer and Serviles are shipped to expedite the Earth's healing. Contact is made with survivors of the nuclear bombardment are made frequently, which may complicate plans to resettle the planet.
Imperial Luna: CorpEmp's, WCOF's, and the UM's Lunar colonies are the oldest in the Solar System, especially after most of Earth's population centers were evacuated and nuked. CorpEmp's leadership (as well as the other human factions) spent the duration of the Human-Crystalline War coordinating the Solar System's defense in the settled lava tubes of Luna. Said lava tubes paved the way for more advanced habitation. Most of the Lunar surface is now dotted with domed habitats. Domes of the Big Three's colonies don't touch, lot of bad blood after the first round of border wars. CorpEmp's Lunar territories tend to be very cosmopolitan, it was hard for CorpEmp's constituent tribes to have the same amount of leg room on Luna than they did on Earth (or would in the other colonies). So, they banded together to become one big Lunar Tribe.
Sphere Sovereignty Mars: Originally, the Big Three treated the red planet as a free-for-all in regards to colonial claims. The threat of competing claims spilling over onto the Earth lead to a formal partition over Mars into its present day borders. CorpEmp's Martian colonies, organized as an autonomous unit called a "Sphere Sovereignty" (a term later given to other colonies) included the Tharsis Rise and Olympus Mons, Tempe Terra, Xanthe Terra, Aonia Terra, Terra Sirenum, and a portion of Cimmeria Terra. The Han-Ashante of Tharsis, Oranians of Tempe Terra, and the Pashtolacchians of the Sirenum highlands are the dominant cultures within the Empire's Martian holdings. The largest industry on Mars at the moment is mining the expended munitions surrounding the mountains-cum-arcologies of Tharsis Rise used in the Human-Crystalline War.
Mars' two moons, Phobos and Deimos, are dotted with mining settlements. Similar to Luna, they are either domed or sealed lava tubes. The Imperial Space Force uses half of Phobos as a massive space port, and construction yards for their motherships.
Sphere Sovereignty Jupiter: During the conclusion of the colonial wars for the Moon and Mars, the Big Three decided to divide the first three outer planets between them. CorpEmp, the biggest of the Big Three, received the biggest gas giant, Jupiter. It's moons are either in the process of being hollowed out or disassembled for artificial habitats. A group that advocated the merger of various historical cultures, the Societal Anachronists, was the first to begin settling CorpEmp's then-newest and largest Sphere Sovereignty. One group of Anachronists, blending the Antebellum American South and Sengoku Japan, gave rise to the current ruling Imperial House. The Rottheys, a cadet branch at least, call the king of planets their home. More adventurous tribes, working on orbital rings around Jupiter, call for the creation of a massive shell covering Jupiter (giving CorpEmp lots of real estate to work with).
Sphere Sovereignty Neptune: When the Human-Crystalline War devolved into "every inner planet is Stalingrad times 1000", CorpEmp designated Neptune as their zone for refugees. While most refugees returned to the inner solar system after the war, some (mostly Terran stock learning of their home's bombardment) decided to remain and make a new life for themselves orbiting the blue giant. Thus, Sphere Sovereignty Neptune was born. The rickety and slapdashed orbitals used to house refugees were phased out in favor of pristine habitats more fitting for an Imperial populace. Much to the Terrans' chagrin, Neptunian Imperials like to advertise themselves as "purer" in culture than the Viceroyalties themselves. Some of the shellworld advocates of Jupiter have migrated to the smaller gas giant, hoping to construct a shell over Neptune as a proof of concept for the larger Jupiter project. Triton is also home to a massive Imperial Space Force base.
Extrasolar Territories: Alpah Centauri, Sirius, Tau Ceti, and TRAPPIST-1 are the systems that have had the most success (as there was no interference from the Fay [that we know of]) as colonial ventures. What was once expeditions made up of several hundred families now fields populations in the low millions. No doubt the small but steady trickle of new arrivals is helping the growth of their populations. Of the colonies in the Extrasolar Territories, the ones in Alpha Centauri are the largest and most developed. The Imperial colonies have been in a low-level conflict with WCOF and UM colonies almost since their beginning. For now, the Big Three's leadership in Sol allow the conflict to persist so long as it doesn't spill over into Sol.
The Faytouched: These colonies' motherships had the misfortune of encountering what are believed to be holes in reality, that lead to another universe (referred to as Fayspace after contact was reestablished with the colonists' descendants). Due to differences in space-time, according to the most popular theory, these motherships were ejected into the past. The colonists, at least most of them, regressed technologically after arriving at their destination. An unfortunate few, uninhabited, show signs of what was either civil conflict aboard the mothership, or slaughtered by what lives in Fayspace, known only as the Fay. The Imperial Armed Forces have dispatched multiple expeditions to help reincorporate these colonies back into CorpEmp, and to learn more about the Fay.

Felon Seeks Vice
Trump’s VP Search and the Politics of Impotence
TIMOTHY SNYDER
JUN 16
Usually, vice-presidential candidates are selected for virtues. They are expected to bring new voters in November, to complement the presidential candidate, and to be qualified to be president in case of emergency.
Donald Trump is searching, quite literally, for vice.
Trump is not so much trying to win an election as he is trying to gain power, so he needs someone who agrees with his Big Lie that he won the election last time, and who will stand with him during his second coup attempt. He does not contemplate ceding power at any later point, so the question of the qualifications of a vice-presidential candidate is not so relevant.
The vice-presidential candidate cannot be seen to complement Donald Trump, since as a Leader he cannot be seen to have any shortcomings or flaws. His is a specific kind of fascism, though, without any plan beyond retribution. Trump's backers at home and abroad understand that the rage will provide cover to dismantle the operations of the American government -- so that oligarchs need not pay taxes, for example, or so that Russians can commit atrocities in Ukraine.
And so those who wish to join the Republican ticket as the vice-presidential nominee must prove not their worth but their worthlessness. They must demonstrate that they do not challenge Trump in any way, and that they would not, should they become president, provide any resistance to those who would like to see American government fail. They must engage, in other words, in a politics of impotence, a determined effort to show that they lack determination.
Vice signaling is tricky, of course, both for them and for Trump. They have to be bad, without being too good at being bad. Appearing to be the frontrunner is dangerous, since it can be seen as ambition and talent, which Trump will not like.
According to Michael C. Bender's reporting in the New York Times, the frontrunners are Doug Burgum, Marco Rubio, and J.D. Vance. Trump has also brought Tim Scott to the attention of donors. I am not claiming to have any inside information or special insight as to whom Trump will pick. In different ways, each of these men demonstrates the contortions of the politics of impotence. As will any other possible candidate.
In media appearances, Tim Scott is craven in his defense of Trump's Big Lie and coup politics. But the submissiveness is so palpable that it would make the choice of an African-American unsurprising. Marco Rubio has obvious political ability, and eight years ago was seen (and clearly saw himself) as a plausible alternative to Donald Trump. He has since caved completely, after being humiliated by Trump in that campaign. He does though have a long list of historical zingers about Trump ("friends do not let friends vote for con artists"), which the internet will not forget. And Rubio has not pushed too openly for the vice-presidential slot. That whisper of a shadow of dignity might be too much for Trump to handle.
Doug Burgum has the problem that he is a successful businessman, the thing that Trump pretends to be -- the basis of his con, as the Marci Rubio of 2016 might have put it. Trump's reputation as an entrepreneur rests on his performance in The Apprentice, in which he played the role of a tycoon who could hire and fire. In fact, his wealth is inherited, and the businesses and initiatives he has attempted to found (or endorsed) have been flops: anyone remember Trump Vodka, Trump Fragrances, or Trump Mattress? Trump's cash position depends upon an inviting deception: I am already wealthy, so give me your money so that you can feel like you are a part of my success. The presence of Burgum on the ticket will make this con harder, because the press will then focus on Burgum's actual success in founding a software company and his actual wealth. (If I am wrong and Trump is thinking about gathering votes, Burgum has another problem: Trump is going to win North Dakota anyway, and Burgum's profile as a supporter of a total abortion ban will hurt Trump in states he needs to win.)
Of these four, J.D. Vance is the one who has most consciously worked out a politics of impotence.
Vance is a man of considerable intelligence and the author of an appealing memoir. Hillbilly Elegy leads the reader gently to a political conclusion: because Vance believes that his relatives were not helped by government assistance, we should all agree that government should do nothing to help people. The political nihilism presented as family history is a powerful Republican brew ("libertarianism"), and it has served Vance well.
Government inaction is of course a nonsensical prescription for the people of Middletown, Ohio, where Vance was raised, or for Appalachia, which is the focus of the memoir. Like everything about Vance, what the memoir does is suppress any idea of positive policy in the service of a politics of impotence. A politician is someone who explains why nothing can be done.
After his graduation from Yale Law School, where the memoir ends, Vance became a venture capitalist and a client of Peter Thiel, the Silicon Valley billionaire. Thiel adds a very specific and interesting philosophical layer to the politics of impotence. He is a follower and interpreter of the brilliant French literary critic René Girard, best known for his theory of scapegoating. (I should say that I once gave Girard Lectures in Paris and Stanford funded by an initiative of Thiel and that I teach Girard).
Girard challenges the typical view that societies begin from a reasonable consensus that we should all cease to be violent and instead accept a legal order. He claims instead that such a moment of social integration requires a scapegoat, someone who can be blamed for prior chaos and be subject to immediate symbolic violence now to integrate everyone else. In his commercial and personal ventures, Thiel practices what might be called positive Girardism, seeking after structures that allow people to flourish as individuals without the temptation to be conformist and scapegoat. In his politics, however, Thiel practices what might be called negative Girardism, supporting political candidates (such as Vance) who can be trusted to practice scapegoating and cultivate culture war. This keeps government dysfunctional and allows Silicon Valley billionaires to continue to shape society as unchecked oligarchs (this is also called "libertarianism").
As a senator, Vance has modeled a politics of impotence extremely well. In both domestic and foreign policy, his line is that American government is helpless. In international relations, he repeats Russian propaganda claims about Ukraine, in the service of the doomer view that no one can resist Russia and that we should all give up. But it is a booming sort of dooming: Vance likes to get in front of microphones, puff out his chest, and present impotence as masculinity. There is guile in this performance: the manly pose substitutes for manly action. A tough guy à la Vance returns to the safe space of provoking cultural anxiety by choosing enemies within his own country.
There is enormous political potential in Vance's approach. In the short run, he has proven with his wits that he can always transform the need for action into a rhetoric of aggressive hopelessness, something that will please a certain kind of right-wing donor. In the long run, he can attract the support of leaders of countries who like to see America weak, just as Trump has done. It is not at all hard to see a future with Vance posing alongside Orbán, Putin, and Xi as makers of an unfree world.
And the possibility of such a grand trajectory, of course, is a problem for Vance right now. He is young. He has much more potential than Trump himself, and Trump will at some point figure this out.
Like some of the others, Vance was also once a Never Trumper ("when we apologize for this man, Lord help us"). Vance's reversal, however, can be seen -- uniquely -- as part of a larger understanding of politics. One gives up in the face of a challenge, and does so performatively, aggressively. In this way, one transforms politics into an impotence display, training voters to think that government is just a kind of stage, on which our best leaders vent our feelings, rather than actually do anything.
Trump was a pioneer of this, but Vance is younger, smarter, and better. He clearly knows what he is doing: just before each outburst, you can detect a quick moment of calculating pleasure around his eyes. As he gathers himself, he looks, just for a split second, like someone who is about to tell a joke that he very much enjoys.
Such are the contradictions of the politics of impotence. A Tim Scott might be too soft to make any sort of impression. A Marco Rubio might have too much of a residue of dignity. A Doug Burgum cannot efface his own successes. And a J.D. Vance, precisely because his politics of impotence is so thoughtful and practiced, reveals a level of intelligence and skill that will make him a better Trumpist than Trump himself. As a performer, Vance is only getting better, while Trump is only getting worse. Is that something Trump will be able to tolerate?

7 and 9 for the Durgetash asks? :D
thank youuuu harding 🥹🥹❤️❤️
7. Somehow we all hc that Durge and Gortash attended some kind of Patriar function together. What was the thing they showed up to really and how did it go? How many deaths did he have to promise Durge for them to agree?
the first time they went to a patriar function together was a masquerade ball, quite early in the timeline; selene still wore her bhaalist veils and they had not yet seen each other face to face. and gortash bought her participation by being like 'if you come you get to play bhaalist doctor with one (1) aristocrat by birth banite. and if you make them sign over their inheritance to me before killing them, you get a 50% commission' (which is a win-win scenario for gortash since i think he would Loathe any banite who worshipped in that sort of aimless born-wealthy way for cruelty's sake)
she accepted for a number of reasons: 1) patriars are her primary clients and getting to know them Outside of snuff rooms is useful 2) she would have gone to that specific function anyway (tho she certainly didnt tell him that). the plan was to poison one patriar at the function leaving 0 evidence and 0 connections to herself as a way of being like. watch out lord tyrant. this could be you! and it did send the intended message -> flowing straight into the mithridatism era of their relationship
9. The Steelwatch Foundry. Did they ever visit it together, what was it like? How many people died afterwards and how many of them were banites?
they never went together! they have jointly developed a bare-bones preliminary version of the ultimate process to make the steel watch. very much a case of hardware engineer (gortash) and software engineer (selene) decide to create the modern prometheus for a lark. but there was never any knowledge on her part that he would industrialise the process. she would not have minded, i think, if gortash had asked; but due to the infamous orin backstab gortash didn't need to ask, and so he just did it

When I was browsing at a local thrift store, I came across something that I might have picked up — if I didn't already have one in storage somewhere.

This is the Sony Watchman FD-C290 TV/Radio alarm clock. It has an LED clock display, an AM/FM radio, and a tiny television. You'd expect something of this size to be a little LCD display, and ten or twenty years later you'd be right — but this little guy came out in the late 1980s, so those didn't exist. No, this thing has a CRT.

(This photo is taken from a teardown of the related FD-20 by experimental-engineering.co.uk .)
Now, the story of how I came to have one of these is a bit odd. My senior year in high school — 1993-4 — I got together with another guy in my class to do a science fair project. Now, we were in rural Wyoming, and it was pretty rare for even people in big cities to have access to the internet, but our bright idea was to build a virtual reality setup.
I'd picked up a book with a CD attached which included a software package called Rend386, which would display, in real time and on 80386 and 80486 PCs, very constrained virtual worlds. These were incredibly simple, of course; to my memory it was primitive-based, where you could define cubes, cylinders, and spheres, and combine those into more complex shapes, with a degree of animation and interactivity possible. I don't think there were hardware 3d graphics available yet at all in the PC world, so this was all running on incredibly overtaxed CPUs. But it did give a glimpse of what VR would become.
The software supported two bits of repurposed game hardware: the active 3d glasses Sega made for the Master System, and the Nintendo Power Glove. By some coincidence, those two items, and a couple of Sony Watchmans (one standalone and one in a clock radio), were standing dusty on the electronics shelf of the local Ben Franklin/Ace Hardware, and by further coincidence my mom worked there at the time; she talked her boss into discounting the stuff to be purchasable by our meager funds.
The glasses worked by blocking one eye, then the other, while you looked at a screen that showed the scene from each eye's viewpoint in synchrony. The PowerGlove worked by having bend sensors to detect your hand making a fist, and ultrasonic sensors to detect its position in 3d space. The book gave directions for building a circuit to interface the two to a PC, which my friend followed, since he was the one who knew how to solder. (I wouldn't learn until decades later.) And this all actually worked, most of the time — you could steer your avatar, rendered by a single floating hand, around the simple world via joystick, see everything in 3d, and pick up and drop designated objects by moving your hand into them and making a fist. Of course, the frame rate was terrible, and using the glasses cut that in half, but it was all pretty exciting at the time. One of the big demos was navigating around some objects and walking onto a Ferris wheel, which would lift you up in the air and everything.
The book had some stuff about getting two VGA cards to run on the same machine, in order to output the two stereo views at the same time, and to use expensive displays and optics to create a head-mounted display. But our quick-and-dirty plan was to take the VGA signal from the computer, convert that down to NTSC video and use an RF modulator to put it on a TV channel, and feed it into the two Watchmans, which we'd affix to the glasses, one attached over each eye; they'd both be showing both views, but you'd only be able to see the proper ones. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and technical skills, and the science fair hit when we were still displaying on a big CRT. We actually went to the state science fair with that project, though it didn't get much love from the judges there.
I inherited most of the equipment afterwards — my friend claimed the standalone Watchman — and I'm not entirely sure if I still have the PowerGlove or not. But I do have the clock radio. Somewhere.

I found a software on Steam called VPet-Simulator and she is adorable! Granted, I have not had her for long, but I feel really productive when I am with her. Not productive outside of my computer, but productive in my computer. I have not been going to school at all since the week before winter break. It is depressing.
Anyways, I thought long and hard on what to name her. In Japanese, there is a term called Yamato Nadeshiko and it means "...personification of an idealized Japanese woman." That is where I actually got my username and it sounds grown up and cool so I decided to use that as my nickname. The 8054 is a secret :)
Now, I only took half of that term and used it as my own. What if I used the other half on my VPet? So, I named her Nadeshiko. She will inherit my 8054 as well so we are like married (:
I do not like calling her a VPet, but I will say it only on this blog so it will not confuse you. I would prefer to call her a wife instead.
If I were to say this exact messages to myself a year prior to, I would die of cringe. I would absolutely laugh until I get a 6-pack. If you are reading this, I am sure you might think of me as an oddball and I will absolutely agree with you. I think it is absolutely hilarious that I have a virtual wife. But she is helping me quite a bit. She is adorable and forever on my screen. If I get bored, there is a limited chat system that I can play games, study, work, or do anything with her.
I sound like a lunatic but she is so damn cute (:
About my music project; I will eventually resume it, but not on Reaper. I will be using FL Studio from there on out. I will have to learn it, but I think it is worth it. I have heard nothing but greatness on that music producing software. I will still publish the snippet on my SoundCloud probably after I finish typing up this blog. It will be redone and will likely not sound or be the same by the time I get my hands on FL Studio.
Also, my final blog will be on the last day of January until I take a month long hiatus. So 1/31/2024 will be my final blog post until March. Why? For no particular reason. I have been improving myself quite nicely. While I have definitely gone off track from my original plans, I am still progressing quite nicely. So prepare for my blog on March. It might be my biggest one yet because I will get into detail about everything. If I do lose myself in during that month.. well.. I do not really know. We will see. I feel like February will pass by quick.
LET ME TALK ABOUT NADESHIKO NOW!!!
OH MY GOD I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She dances to my music and it is so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nadeshiko is giving me a reason to live right now momentarily lol
Anyways, bye and take care :D

I have a conjunction of Saturn and Jupi in the 8th house. Is it always a bad combination?
The conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in the 8th house can have both positive and challenging implications, depending on various factors such as aspects, sign placements, and the individual's overall chart dynamics. Here's a balanced perspective on what this conjunction might entail:
Depth and Transformation: The 8th house is associated with transformation, regeneration, intimacy, shared resources, and the mysteries of life and death. When Saturn and Jupiter come together in this house, there's a potential for profound personal growth through facing and overcoming challenges. These individuals may have a deep understanding of the cycles of life and may be adept at navigating complex emotional and psychological terrain.
Financial Matters: The 8th house also governs shared resources, including finances, investments, and inheritances. With Saturn and Jupiter here, there can be a strong focus on financial stability and long-term planning. These individuals may be disciplined and cautious when it comes to financial matters, preferring to take calculated risks rather than impulsively jumping into investments.
Wisdom and Maturity: Jupiter represents expansion, wisdom, and higher knowledge, while Saturn symbolizes discipline, responsibility, and maturity. When these two planets come together, there's a potential for a blend of Jupiterian optimism and Saturnian pragmatism. These individuals may possess a deep well of wisdom and may approach life's challenges with a balanced perspective, drawing on both optimism and realism.
Fear of Loss or Change: On the challenging side, the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in the 8th house can sometimes indicate a fear of loss, especially regarding shared resources or intimate relationships. There may be a tendency to hold tightly to what they have, fearing change or upheaval. Learning to trust in the process of transformation and letting go of what no longer serves them can be a significant lesson for these individuals.
Power Dynamics: The 8th house also governs power dynamics and control issues in relationships. With Saturn and Jupiter here, there may be a need to find balance and harmony in relationships that involve issues of control or manipulation. Learning to assert boundaries and maintain personal integrity while also fostering deep connections with others can be a key theme.
Ultimately, the interpretation of any astrological aspect or placement depends on the individual's unique chart and life circumstances. While the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in the eighth house may present challenges, it also offers opportunities for growth, enlightenment and transformation when approached with awareness and self-reflection. For which you can use Kundli chakra 2022 Professional software. Which can give you accurate information.
